Mary LaLonde

Writing about life after a brain injury

ABOUT

Dr. Mary LaLonde is a former child psychiatrist turned writer, poet, and artist after a traumatic brain injury changed the course of her life. For the past decade, she has been reimagining and rebuilding her life. She writes a Substack, called Postconcussion Life, about invisible disability, chronic pain, and the healing power of art.

Mary has an M.D./ Ph.D. from Stony Brook University and completed a general psychiatry residency and a child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City. She spent 20 years in Westchester County, NY raising her two daughters. When they left the nest to Washington, DC for college, she and her husband, Doug, pursued their long-held dream for a life in Seattle. She now lives on the Elliott Bay waterfront where she meditates to the rhythms of the Sound and draws inspiration from nature.

She is currently revising her debut memoir about how a traumatic brain injury affects not only all aspects of a person’s life, but that of their family’s, and how one can rebuild their life into something even better.
